ENID STREET
Re: ENID STREET
Word of thanks to Fogbrain for the location and information.
Enid Street. The pub was the Windsor Castle, aka "The Happy Home".
Now believe "The Happy Home" to be the Lion Pub not the Windsor Castle Pub?

Re: ENID STREET
Enid Street, looking from Rouel Road (1938) The houses had railway arches just outside their back doors. The original Lion pub can just be seen on the right corner and at the far end on the same side was The Windsor Castle. The Lion was replaced in 1961 and moved to the corner of Spa Road but The Windsor was demolished c.1965 and never rebuilt.

UNBEATABLE BEETLES
The kitchen is a black rectangle below ground level. A small pool of daylight falls through a grating into an area about the size of a large meat safe. On the floor of this area is an open drain. THAT IS THE SINK. Trains passing over a viaduct a few feet away shake the house until the china on the dresser rattles. Upstairs, mice are eating away the damp wallpaper, and when it rains at night in the top back room they cannot turn on the light because the water runs through the roof and down the electric wire flex to cause short circuits."
Re: ENID STREET
Nice picture but no date or information regarding the people in the picture, hoping someone can provide us with that information.
