Hi,
I went to Galleywall and had a great time there. We used to play football in the playground with that massive wall staring down at us. I also remember that we used the metal screen as you entered the school from Galleywall Road as a goal, which was very small.
I distinctly remember 2 teachers there. One was Mr Sallis who was my teacher, brilliant bloke who taught me to write poetry. The other was Mr Adams who put the fear of God into everyone. My class used to have him for Maths once a week all afternoon. He would get worked up if no one knew an answer and his face would go purple and he'd shout at us for ages
Another memory from that class was how we used to stand up and recite the times tables. We tried to get the good ones up the front going " once two is two, two twos are four" etc whilst the rest of us hummed the tune but didn't know the words! I also remember when I first started there that they made you lie down for half an hour in the afternoon. As far as I can remember we used to all look at each other but no one went to sleep! Right the way through my time there I always ran home to have my dinner at lunchtime, as I lived at 83 Catlin Street next to the prefabs and just up the road from Renees corner shop, so it was an easy little jog for me. Come to think of it I used to run everywhere in those days
