PARK STREET
Re: PARK STREET
Park Street, entrance to Noah's Ark Alley, c1923, Noah's Ark Pub on the left. In the distance at the end of the alley there are two industrial chimneys visible. This would have been the City of London Electric Lighting Company which owned and operated Bankside power station.

It was in Park Street that General von Haynau [ an Austrian general, noted for his brutality to the masses and whose evil reputation preceded him] who was on a visit to England and the brewery was recognised and attacked by Barclay Perkins drayman. He escaped by hiding in the cellar of a local house on the corner of Park street and Redcross Way hiding under some boxes.

Eventually he managed to escape, taking shelter in the nearby George public house. A police force eventually arrived to rescue him, disguising him in one of the landlady’s hats as they led him outside. He was escorted to a police boat and rowed across the Thames to safety, jeered on by a jubilant crowd.
Re: PARK STREET
Could this be The Windmill, situated at 52 Park Street.
Re: PARK STREET
No, the caption is in error; it isn't any of the pubs that were in Park Street, and I don't know where it is.kiwi wrote:Could this be The Windmill, situated at 52 Park Street.

Cheers Fogbrain, no I was'nt convinced either. I now think it was The Franchise, in Andover Road, Holloway, N7, c1911.
Re: PARK STREET
Ah, so it was. Well done on tracing that. I saw the the word "Franchise" but didn't think it was relevant to the name. That'll learn me!kiwi wrote:I now think it was The Franchise, in Andover Road, Holloway, N7, c1911.
