Re: Living in the Blitz
In the autumn of 1944, the original arch and its namesake pub were wiped out in two V2 rocket attacks which, although occurring several days apart in late October and early November, managed to strike the exact same spot in an extremely unlucky twist of fate.
A total of 11 civilians were killed by the blasts.

Both my grandmother and father were born there and their first flat became inhabitable following bombing in October 1940. They moved to another part of the building but had barely moved in when they were bombed out again on 10 May 1941. They lost everything as there was no water for the fireman to put the fire out. I have a copy of the architects drawings but would dearly love to see a photo.
Hi I know your post is a while back but hope you are still on this email. My grandmother lived at 8 Spa mansions, but much earlier than your family. Do you know where the building actually was? Did you have any luck with photos.
