Lockyer Street

Postby fosney » Mon Jan 30, 2017 2:27 pm

(Yesterday & Today)

Lockyer Street another street that has almost disapeared with the ravages of redevolpment, all that remains is the name and a small cul de sac.

Going west along Long Lane towards the Borough we find Kipling Street on the right, the first turning left in Kipling Street is what is left of Lockyer Street. Originaly Locker Street ran parallel with Long Lane before turning right to join Porlock Place now known as Porlock Street.

It is now lost in the Lockyer Estate and school to the rear

Information with picture states Porlock Place. I think this is Lockyer Street with Porlock Place at the far end. On the left you can see the entrance to the school which you can see in the map above. There was no school in Porlock Place, so I hope I’m right.

Porlock Place is correct. The photo was taken looking west from outside the girls and infants gate to Laxon Street School.
