The Burston Strike School was founded as a consequence of a school strike and became the centre of the longest running strike in British history, that lasted from 1914 to 1939 in the village of Burston in Norfolk,
Every year hundreds of people turn up for a rally to commemorate the 25-year strike over the jobs of Annie Higdon and her husband.
An interesting story and a long way from Norfolk.
Bermondsey Advertisments
Re: Bermondsey Advertisments
Ticket for St James' Gate, for the Bermondsey, Rotherhithe and Deptford Roads.
Would this be a Tollgate? Not sure where St James Gate was situated, though there was a Rotherhithe New Road Gate
At the junction with St James Road in 1868?

Just along Jamaica Road from the Greg, towards Rotherhithe. Not sure where St James Gate was situated
Just before demolition in 1865.
You only had to pay the toll at one gate within the Bermondsey, Rotherhithe, & Deptford Turnpike Trust to get through any of them.

Cheers Fogbrain and welcome back, hope everything is OK. Thanks for the information regarding the Tollgate, plus a great picture. Kiwi (Ray).
Re: Bermondsey Advertisments
In the earlier years (1945/49) the Dockers Club as far as I know had no connection with the docks. After closing and then re-opening, around the 1950s, not sure when. The date (1953) on the poster is when I probable remember the connection with the docks. I assume they kept the name Gordon Club because people would associate it with the earlier club??

1938 POSTERS. All these posters are very similar with that same grey rim and dated 1938. Two have bermondseybiz, not on the posters but near the edge, so maybe the credit should go to him regarding this information
