A word of thanks to a friend of mine (and still in touch) Sue Meager (smeagher1) for the pictures and information.
My mum’s family the Olivers knew the Winstone from way back in the 1930s. In the mid to late 40s when we lived in Guinness’s Buildings Pages Walk my mum (Annie Hamilton) would take me to visit Mrs Winstone when they also lived there.
My brother (Bob) went to Webb Street school with some of them and the boys also played football together for John Street Club, Leroy Street. (picture in the Leroy Street Topic).

Sues mum Mrs Winstone is the on the left, second lady in, middle row, next to her sitting down is Sues brother Dave Winstone. The girl looking towards Dave is Sue and to Sues right is her sister. At the back on the far right was Mr Gundry he was the Superintendent of Meakin, he arranged the party with Sues dad Harry. The man next to him in the white shirt is Sues brother Harry and in front of him their other brother Danny.1953.

The Jolly Tanners was situated at 3 Rothsay Street. This pub was renamed Uncles in 1985 and Sherwood’s in 1986. It closed in 1997 and has now been converted into flats, with two floors added to the building.
