Both my grandmother and father were born there and their first flat became inhabitable following bombing in October 1940. They moved to another part of the building but had barely moved in when they were bombed out again on 10 May 1941. They lost everything as there was no water for the fireman to put the fire out. I have a copy of the architects drawings but would dearly love to see a photo.

Hi I know your post is a while back but hope you are still on this email. My grandmother lived at 8 Spa mansions, but much earlier than your family. Do you know where the building actually was? Did you have any luck with photos.

Hi Jennifer, welcome to the site. So far, I have not found any photos of Spa Mansions.
The good news is I can tell you where they were, which was down the end of Spa Road before you get to Grange Road and on the right. If you look in the Grange Road Topic the Mansions were behind The Horns pub and to the right, backing on to the Tannery.
I have re-posted a picture of the Tannery, which was bombed in 1941, the same year Gillian mentioned, so it is possible the buildings behind are Spa Mansions. If not, it does give you some idea of what that area looked like at that time. Sorry about the picture but I hope this helps. Kiwi.

Hi nuttyboy pat, it does look like Abbey Buildings, with Tower Bridge in the distance to the right of them. Looking at the picture and right of centre is a chimney, could this be the tannery in Tanner Street?? Over to the right is a large building, possibly the Dockhead Club? Maybe someone can give us the answers.

Harper Road, 1942. Air raid bomb damage near the corner of Bath Terrace, Brockham Street would be just to the left out of picture. X.png
