I remember getting this at the Ice Cream shop in Great Dover Street, just down from the Library at the Bricklayers Arms, in the 1950s. Also, ice cream and Tizer.

The ice cream shop near the Bricklayers arms was probably the greengrocers owned by Peter Bottone (Italian) situated at the convergence of Tabard Street and Great Dover Street. We used to go there for the sixpenny mix, vanilla ice cream, lemon ice and strawberry ice . Does anybody remember the shop ?

Hi David, I remember the green grocers shop but the shop I'm on about was back along the same side as the library. I have'nt found anyone else who can remember this shop, I'm sure I've not got Alzheimer’s :?: but then I can't remember. ;)

Spices (Shad Thames), Hops, Fish and yes even Horses and you get a flash back to them places so long ago. Even today when the Steam Train passes near our place, first we see the smoke, them the clicker-de- clack from the track, you get the smell of the smoke the whistle starts blowing and I’m back down hopping. I just want to run and put a penny on the line but now I cannot run, and I would probable get run over. Sadly, it is just a memory, a good memory of good times gone bye. :D ;)

I'm not sure I understand this thread. I left in the 1960's. Isn't Bermondsey still like that? :) :D
