corn porters, southside unionism and the borough council

Hi All
I'm researching the life and times of my grandfather as a corn porter on the surrey docks, southside trade unionist and borough councillor (1920s -1950s). Does anyone have any family recollections or stories which have passed down the years on any of these areas.
