Not sure who the auther is but it certainly sums up my and many members time way back, and brings back so many memories. :)
NO TEARS PLEASE
Back in the days of tanners and bobs,
When Mothers had patience and Fathers had jobs.
When football team families wore hand me down shoes,
And T.V gave only two channels to choose.
Back in the days of three penny bits,
when schools employed nurses to search for your nits.
When snowballs were harmless; ice slides were permitted
and all of your jumpers were warm and hand knitted.
Back in the days of hot ginger beers,
when children remained so for more than six years.
When children respected what older folks said,
and pot was a thing you kept under your bed.
Back in the days of Listen with Mother,
when neighbours were friendly and talked to each other.
When cars were so rare you could play in the street.
When Doctors made house calls and Police walked the beat.
Back in the days of Milligan's Goons,
when butter was butter and songs all had tunes.
It was dumplings for dinner and trifle for tea,
and your annual break was a day by the sea.
Back in the days of Dixon's Dock Green,
Crackerjack pens and Lyons ice cream.
When children could freely wear National Health glasses,
and teachers all stood at the FRONT of their classes.
Back in the days of rocking and reeling,
when mobiles were things that you hung from the ceiling.
When woodwork and pottery got taught in schools,
and everyone dreamed of a win on the pools.
Back in the days when I was a lad,
I can't help but smile for the fun that I had.
Hopscotch and roller skates; snowballs to lob.
Back in the days of tanners and bobs.

This is great, thanks for posting it. I few personal notes:

Back in the days of tanners and bobs,***I remember farthings

And T.V gave only two channels to choose.***And I recall one channel and the night that ITV became the second channel

and all of your jumpers were warm and hand knitted.***My aunt Berna knit countless jumpers for me.

and pot was a thing you kept under your bed.***It was a godsend on cold nights and saved the trek to the outside loo

Like most things in life Cockney Slang changes through the years, for example If today you said Gregory Peck for Neck or Donald Peers for Ears you would probably get a look and a, who the hell are they. Here in NZ I still get the occasional comment of, what the hell is he talking about. :) ;) .

I think this group (The Litterati) deserve a mention. I don’t know if the lady with the smile is Rachel, but it certainly brightens up the day. Maybe someone will be able to tell us the names of the people in the picture.

Bermondsey and Rotherhithe residents have begun a new litter-picking campaign, to clear the streets of rubbish as the country emerges from lockdown and people begin to meet more outside.
The Litterati, who began picking up rubbish over Easter, meet every week. The group has covered areas including Stave Hill Ecological Park, Page’s Walk, the cycle path near Millwall stadium the Den and Surrey Canal Road.
Group members say they are happy to volunteer to help clean up their neighbourhoods, but they shouldn’t have to do it.

To anyone looking at this card and saying why the hell did KIWI post that. Firstly, I can’t understand a word of it, so being curious I thought post it and maybe someone more intelligent than me, can tell me/us what it says. Secondly it is Albany Road, so apart from that I haven’t got a clue. :?

That was so much fun at the time but looking back it was sad that many people lost their lives and homes for a senseless cause. :(
