SEDGMOOR PLACE

Lying in the shadows of the 1960s Southampton Estate development in Camberwell, South London, is a 19th century building that at first glance resembles a mock Tudor castle. Now private flats, this was built in the 1830s as the Aged Pilgrims’ Asylum, the first almshouses built by The Aged Pilgrims’ Friend Society. Formed in London in 1807, the purpose of the Society was to provide ‘permanent relief to the aged and infirm Christian poor of the age of sixty and above and whose income does not exceed five shillings per week’
