Part of Oxley Street in 1927 ran off Parkers Row opposite Holy Trinity Church, roughly where this alley is today 2019. Assuming this was Oxley Street, at the far end where you can see Copperfield House was a Smithy, possible the one in the picture. Oxley Street was also at the far end, running left to right. So the picture was possibly taken from that end part of the alley? (Oxley Street)
At the rear of the Smithy in 1927 was Virginia Row and Pleasant Row,which with Oxley Street have all disappeared.
OXLEY STREET
Re: OXLEY STREET
Hicks' is certainly the smithy shown on the map, facing west towards Holy Trinity Church.
Oxley Street was not quite on the same alignment as the Wade House access road; it was slightly to the south and ran through where the right-hand side of the hairdressers now stands and the bit of Wade House to the right.
The March 1945 V2 came down on the centre of Parker's Row at the junction with Oxley Street.
