The church was built in 1839. It was latterly known as Bermondsey Christ Church, Jamaica Road and is easily confused with the original Bermondsey Christ Church, but not the same!
The last registers are from 1950 although burials ceased in the early 1850s. This was with the exception of Sir William Gomm (died 1875) and his widow, Elizabeth, Lady Gomm (died 1877), for whom special permission was needed. (Sir William Gomm was the Lord of the Manor of Rotherhithe for 53 years, and his widow followed him in the office for just two years.)

Dockhead Stores pub, Ship and Camel is the earliest name given in the records. Built in 1884 by Talbot & Lugg, local builders and builders' merchants were established here in 1876, they occupied these premises until the 1970s. At one time it was an Irish pub now offices. Corner of Jamaica Road and Tanner Street (right). Though this is Jamaica Road the address is given as Tanner Street. The building next door(left) added a couple of floors in 2016.

LCC Tram and horse bus (possibly predecessor to route 47) in Jamaica Road. ‘c. 1900’ is questionable – electric trams did not run on this road until 1911.
