What a great effort from the Kirby Estate. :)
The Kirby estate in Bermondsey the residents covered the estate with over 300 England flags for the World Cup.jpg

These are the comments from three of the residents.
I just hope that other estates will lead from this, because there is so much negativity in the world maybe this might bring a bit of happiness into the world and cheer the country up,” said Alan.
“People associate the St George’s Cross with racism or political issues, but it’s not about that at all,” Geraldine added.
“As you can see we’ve got other flags up we’ve got Spanish, Moroccan, Portuguese, Polish, and French.”
Geraldine Howard, 52, and Alan Putman, 48, who helped put all of the flags up with Chris Dowse, 39, admitted they were a “little bit overwhelmed”.
Geraldine, a pharmacy advisor who has lived on the estate for 29 years.
“You’ve got to cheer on your country and we just feel like there’s so much negative stuff going on in the world at the moment it just cheers everyone up;
the kids love it and it just brings everyone together.”
Well done, Geraldine, Alan & Chris and the Kirby Estate, you certainly cheered me up and brought a smile to my face in New Zealand, if only we could all live in harmony like the Kirby Estate. :D, To be continued, :?: I remember 1966 ;)
THE END :( ONCE AGAIN IT'S NOT COMING HOME :arrow: At my age 4 years is a long time to wait ;)

Smashing older picture of THE QUEEN VICTORIA.

Southwark Park Road, The Queen Vic on the corner of SPR and Monnow Road. The row of shops was called Electric Terrace, so I'm guessing they were the first to have electric lighting.?

The Old Bank Pub. This used to be the HSBC BANK which closed around 2010. Before this it was the Midland Bank taken over by HSBC IN 1992 and changed names between 1992 & 1999.

The picture of the street party was taken in Southwark Park Road between Balaclava Road and Dunton Road I think outside number 32. That’s me in the front row with the pointed hat looking totally bored out of my head the party was funded by a street collection collected by the children over a period of time from donations from people going to and from work ---Names that I can remember from left to right.

Standing In sailors Hat Eddie Hayward, Bored Joe Foster A Another in sailors hat? Brian Lawson, Benny Cox
