Re: Southwark Park Road
Aerial view of Bermondsey Southwark Park Road area sometime in the 1920s and before Bermondsey Borough Councils redevolopment of the Borough in the 1930s.
Like today a lot of changes were taking place while some had not yet taken place The picture shows :
The original Alywyn School. Elim Church Dunton Road. Liptons Jam factory Rouel Road.
Former Congregational Church then a Synagogue in Rouel Road. Bermondsey Baths Opened and Old baths in Spa Road gone. The Neckinger Estate does not exist still part of Bovingtons Tannery which stretched from The Neckinger to Jamaica Road -plus others
This picture taken before the time that many of us can remember. But what Changes can you see?

Hi Joe
Thanks for posting the pic of old Bermondsey 1920c on 31 December it brought a very special memory for me as I had forgotten about the Liptons tall chimney which was so close to my home. The memoy in question would be 1944/45 when the siren had sounded and we had to go into the Anderson shelter in our back yard but my Mum was at the front door paying the insurance man when a Doodle Bug stopped over that chimney then cut out, my mum grabbed the insurance man, then me and we all landed in the shelter almost on top of one another but I cannot remember where the dooble bug landed.

Another picture in the 'Blue' Southwark Park Road at the point where Camilla Road crossed Southwark Park Road - to the left was Blue Anchor Lane and to the right Fort Road and Lynton Road.
This was at the time when the Horse Trams still operated in the area. The Blue Anchor pub can be seen on the corner of Blue Anchor Lane and the sign for George Carters Mens Outfitters can be seen over the canopies of the shops. The shop on the corner number 229 stood on the corner where the bank is which now looks as though it has closed

Wotcha,
I think the shop on the corner is number 225 Martin Segall a ladies outfitter. (Number 229 was Mrs Ada Esther Mary Cherry, pianoforte dealer)

Joe, thanks for the old pic of 'The Blue' Southwark Park Road to add to my collection but sad to say the google pic is now outdated because they have pulled up all the trees and done away with all the seating even the arch which was painted blue which is on the left side of pic has gone. By the way the Midland Bank on the corner is no longer, it is a Bar.

Re: Southwark Park Road
Thanks to millylinseyst for the up to date picture of The Blue Market. Now knowing of the changes I thought we should have a picture of how that was for the records its what we can call Yesterday and Today ----- The Inbetween Years
