Re R&G Holden, it was further towards St James’ Road, in between Iceland and the old Abbey National/Santander. It still sells similar stuff today.

Hi GSLondon, thank you for the picture and the location of R&G Holden. Nice to get feedback and thank you for your comment regarding new pics, that has certainly brightened up my day. Sometimes I do ask myself is anyone out there. Kiwi. :)

Woolworths, 2008. The poster at the front says £20 million summer clear out, just 5 months before fate was to hit all Woolworths stores across the country. This is now a Tesco Store.

I was at Alma School during the early to mid 70's. Miss King was the Headmistress and she used to get us to sing songs from the Mikado, three little maids from school, etc. I still have the words to some of those songs burnt in to my brain.

I remember Mr Clayton and Mr Cresswell the most. I may have got it wrong but I think it was Mr Clayton that got us to do Morris Dancing as part of PE and Mr Cresswell who read us Stig of the dump, feel free to correct me if I got it the wrong way round. We also had a really mad Lollypop lady who helped us cross Southwark Park Rd, we used to move her Lollypop if she was horrible to us, she hid it behind the wall next to the crossing. The other end of the flats was a Barbers, run by a father and son, us boys always had our hair cut there.

Names that immeadiately come to mind from my class, although will be more if I think hard - Lesley Gabriel, Larry Bedford, Ian Atkins, Willy Curtain (whose dad was caretaker at Alwyn girls)

Am sure they had another entrance on St James Road as well. The good old days of the Pick and Mix, helping yourself to a crafty sweet as you walked past. That was where I bought my first records, later going over to the record/toy shop in the Old Kent Rd , on the corner that led up to East St Market.

I was over that way earlier this year, it saddened me to see what it had all now become.
