freddie Thanks for that great pictures at least we have a record of what it was or is like.
I wonder if the plan is to redevelop the site with new buildings or revamp the building as on other sites? I would think new buildings

May be a question of watch this space.-
I see from google the Raven Public house on the corner of Tanner Street and Tower Bridge Road has gone now, but I have a picture

Hi Joe,

No probs. Only posted a selection of those taken, also took some others around Long Lane & Bermondsey Street. Going to try to do a visit on a weekday soon. The redevelopment will be new buildings, you should hopefully see the artists impressions in the picture on my first post.

Went into the old Sarsons site to take a few pictures of the maltings but the security wasn't very happy! It's all a hotel now, I thought it was apartments.

With regards to the "Metal Box" redevelopment, I quote from the developers website:

"L&Q are proposing plans for a new residential and commercial development in the London borough of Southwark to be completed in 2013. The design proposals seek to unlock the tremendous potential of this site in Bermondsey by creating a distinctive and distinguished building which establishes a new presence on Tanner Street, Riley Road and Maltby Street.

This landmark building will comprise commercial units on the ground floor, 154 one, two and three bedroom apartments and duplexes on floors 1 - 9 and a health club and parking in the basement level.

The design proposal provides a fresh and exciting design approach with:

Public realm improvements
More family accommodation and more affordable housing for Southwark
High proportion of dual-aspect units, some with views to The City
High sustainability performance

The scheme also offers the potential to improve the existing pedestrian environment along Tanner Street, Maltby Street and Riley Road by:

Setting it back from the roads to create a generous public space
Increasing the landscaping area in front of the building
Widening pedestrian pavements"

Thanks to freddie on the information on the old Metal Box Company site development I have now found an Artists Impression of the proposed development.

What are your thoughts?

This is what you call the changing face of Bermondsey

The Prince of Wales Pub 1880 at this time it was known as Riley Street & on the corner of Prince Street, no longer there. It ran from Riley St to Purbrook St, changed to Riley Road sometime after 1929 and became 17 Riley Road.
