Southwark Street Estate (Peabody estate) was opened in 1876. Originally there were 12 blocks, with 22 flats in each one.

Built in the 1870s, the former Menier
Chocolate Factory, Southwark Street,

Menier Chocolate Factory not only has a very attractive front door,
but also two ghost door numbers who seem to have survived by
being hidden under a brass plate or something similar.

The Metropolitan Pub, was situated at 60 Southwark Street

Southwark Street was built in the early 1860s by The Metropolitan Board of Works. Presumably this is where the name for the public house came from.
I can’t help thinking the original incarnation was a little bit easier on the eye.
Now called The Southwark Rooms, this venue is the type of place commonly hired out by city workers for drinks and nibbles. Plush inside, brutal on the outside. 2016.

Bear Lane ran between Southwark Street & Great Suffolk Street. (1904). Bear lane is still there but running between Southwark Street & Dolben Street. (2018)
