Hawkstone Road

The Lady Gomm Memorial Mission House and Accident Hospital 1885-1940 opened after her death with money bequethed to the Parish.
The Hospital opened in 1885 for the benefit of the sick and poor of Rotherhithe and was managed by the Anglican Community of the Sisters of the Church.
During World War 2 the hospital suffered bomb damage in the blitz and although was structurally sound nevertheless closed as a Hospital.
Since 2005 it has been the home of the Cavendish School.

we used to have our medical in there before we went on our two weeks holiday with the childrens country holiday fund.us poor kids would go and stay with rich people in there country houses.it was nice to see how the other half lived.proper breakfast every morning sitting at the table.does anyone else remember the cchf also i think that building also housed the dreaded school dentist a german i think

The Duke Of Suffolk, was situated at 59 Hawkstone Road. This pub has now been converted to flats, ceased trading as a pub in c1993. 1901 census it was called The Suffolk Arms.
