Picture of Barclay and Fry Factory Great Guildford Street from the railway viaduct in 1905.
Although the factory was in Southwark Barclay and Fry had a long association with Bermondsey as suppliers for packaging for Peak Frean's Biscuits.
Formed in 1887 they moved to Great Guildford Street in 1889. Barclay and Fry produced elaborately decorated tins on the new offset lithography process patented by Robert Barclay.
The business expanded in 1894 and again in 1904 and the company and its associates formed the Metal Box Company well known in Bermondsey in 1922. The factory was damaged during the bombing in 1940 and 1941 when tin plate printing ceased.
