Elephant And Castle Fair 1962. I’m glad I found this picture as quite a few people I have mentioned this too can’t remember it. It came there for quite a few years and I can remember it in the 1950s,as it was a nice little earner for us. ;) The fair was on the right coming from Old Kent Road just before the bridge, not sure if it was on a bomb site or just the buildings had been pulled down. :?:

The Elephant and Castle area is named after a pub of the same name, which started as a blacksmith’s forge set up by John Flaxman in 1614.
Known originally as the White House, and later the Elephant and Castle, the forge-turned-pub stood on the site of the roundabout in front of this building.
The old pub was demolished during Elephant and Castle redevelopment in the 1960s. The current Rockingham pub stands on approximately the same site.
