The original church building was destroyed by incendiary bombs during an air raid on 7 September 1940, making it the first British Church to be destroyed in the Second World War. I think Canon Thrift was Joseph Thrift? 1921-58.
The Church was in Trinity Road which was off Rotherhithe Street.
