These two adjacent wharves lay close to the Surrey Docks and like, them, specialised in handling and storing timber. On 7th/8th September 1940, the first major raid on London, these two wharves were both hit, a conflagration engulfing them and their timber stockpiles.

Powell’s Wharf. This wharf was on both sides of Bermondsey Wall East, Pottery Street is where the other warehouse was. Caledonian Wharfage handled sugar and confectionary. Two granaries were on the site – one built by Young and Raymond and the other by Begbie and Young, contractors. It was a four-storey brick warehouse using hydraulic equipment

Picture states Fanards Wharf. I have not been able to find Fanards Wharf, so think it may mean Farrand’s Wharf. :?: If this is correct part of this building was a Granary.
