I can remember when the 82 bus ran through Rotherhithe Tunnel to Stepney Station via Brunel Road and Rotherhithe Street, and the bus stand was by the Cafe in St. Mary's Street where it terminated, and the old Bus route 4 which terminated outside the Queen Charlotte, next to the Metopolitain Horse troughs at the junction of Southwark Park Road and Jamaica Road, I think there were some over in West Lane then I believe the route was extended to Surrey Docks Station via Lowerr Road but stopped further up in Rope Street via Plough Way
I lived in Park Buildings opposite St Peters Church in Paradise Street up until the end if the 1960's when they were demolished. and one of our neighbours acually drove the No. 4 bus route I think it went up to Finsbury Park Station
I remember the trolley buses as a boy running over at Shoreditch High Street and Norton Folgate/Great Eastern Street as we used to get the 47 bus to go over to the markets at Club Row and they would pass us. the 47 was also our day out getting on outside the Europa pub in St Mary's Street and going all the way out to the Green Dragon car park at Farnborough where it terminated. later the route was shortened and it terminated at Bromley Garage.

Hi Rob, like you I can remember catching a number 21 bus in the Old Kent Road and going all the way to Swanley, The Farningham Bull, (late 1940s-50s.) This was also one of the pubs, amongst many we stopped at when we went down hopping by lorry. The next pub was just past Brands Hatch, so if you know the area it wasn’t very far, the next pub was just before Seven Mile Lane, how we ever made it to the hop farms I just don’t know.
