Re: MYSTERY-DO YOU RECOGNISE THESE PLACES?
Bryant's Alley, Rotherhithe, c.1930. This one’s really confusing, and apparently it always has been. There is an alley marked on old OS maps as Bryan Court in Rotherhithe that ran between Bryan Road (formerly Trinity Road) and Rotherhithe Street (formerly Trinity Street), where Bryan House now stan...

Re: Rotherhithe Street
The building on the right faced with rusticated stucco and with projecting lamp and sign bracket (but no helpful sign!) is the Duke's Head at 268 Rotherhithe Street. The large house in the distance is № 187. The Amos Estate now stands on the right.kiwi wrote:Picture states Rotherhithe Street.

Re: Landrail Place
We didn't have access to such good maps all those years ago when fosney posted the photo. The c1900 map shows the three cottages in Landrail Place after the other thirteen had been demolished for the widening of the viaduct and before the three new tracks have been laid thereupon. map; Landrail Plac...

Galleywall Road across by the railway arches Galleywall Road is out of shot on the right on the 1950 picture. The John Bull Arch is on the right. The arches are revealed because the buildings on the north side of Southwark Park Road were destroyed in the V2 strikes. The building behind the railway ...

Re: Tracing Bermondsey gran roots
With Shillington Street School you're a bit more lucky. Shillington Street has long gone but the school survives - the same building that your grandmother would have known - and is now apartments. The address is now 181 Este Road but a shiny new plaque at the front says "181. Shillington Road S...

Re: Tracing Bermondsey gran roots
Can I expect to see any original buildings around these areas? Hi, Bermondseyroots1888. You're too late to see Alderminster Road - the last bit vanished maybe 20 or 30 years ago. In fact the stretch of Alderminster Road where 103 was - between Dunton Road and Welsford Street - was completely built ...
