Re: The Boy and the Bridge (1959) - Film locations
Hi Matheson Yes, sometimes the Square was used for the market stalls as an over spill, but the main market was above the Square in the shaded part which was a car park for most of the week. Thanks for the info on watching this film. Have just finished watching it and boy what a treasure this film is...

Re: The Boy and the Bridge (1959) - Film locations
The location of these scenes are the Caledonian antiques market situated in Bermondsey Square. The buildings behind are Abbey Buildings on the left and John Feaver's tin factory on the right. The road junction is Abbey Street and Tower Bridge Road. Have heard about this film and would love to see it...

Re: DO YOU REMEMBER THESE?
British-Railways-Ticket-Punch-Nlippers.jpg M192.jpg s-l500.jpg We use to help ourselves to a few of these near some roadworks, rascals I know, and take them to our hideaway den in an old disused factory. It was great fun at night times! 1969_Raleigh_Chopper.jpg Yet another must have toy when we wer...

Re: DO YOU REMEMBER THESE?
H20253-L114360277.jpg Back in the 60's, this was the must have toy for xmas! All I ever wanted was a 'Johnny Seven Gun' (the seven meant that the gun fired seven projectiles). After a lot of nagging, my parents eventually got me one. One of my friends, who lived opposite our block in Abbey Building...

Re: Abbey Street
Lovely photo of Abbey Street. If memory serves me the shell fish stall was only there on a Sunday morning. I remember we use to hang around the stall just before he packs up for the day hoping that he'll give us any of his left overs!!!! I also remember on one occasion coming home from school, we we...

Re: Grange road
Hi Kiwi
The first photo looks as if it may be just off the junction with The Grange opposite the swimming pool? Would be interesting to see where it is.
But to be honest Kiwi I'm more curious about the "FREE SEX" sign displaying Green Shield Stamps??
Cheers nuttyboy pat

Re: Tower Bridge Gap
Hi all. It wasn't till i started reading about the gaps on the bridge that I remembered thats exactly what we did as kids at the weekend! We would straddle the gap and wait for a heavy vehicle to come across hoping it will make the bridge raise up and then we would have to jump to one side or the ot...

Re: Sandbags Under Abbey Street Arch
I remember when I was a young 'un (late 60's) there were some mens urinals where the sandbags were in the photo. When we use to go and come home from school and if you were really, really desperate for the loo you had to hold your breath and rush in for the loo and be as quick as you can as the sten...

Abbey Buildings
Have been searching for a few years now for some photos of Abbey Buildings and came across these. Have marked where we use to live. Has bought back a thousand happy memories of my childhood growing up in Bermondsey. The photo that shows the entrance to the flats has damaged railings and this was due...

Re: Tommy Steele and things
I remember the blond haired kid as I think he lived behind me in Abbey Buildings and we all remember him saying that he's being paid £50 for starring in a Tommy Steele film! Great memories for everyone! Does anyone know if this video can be purchased anywhere? Have tried the usual places like Amazon...
