Re: HORNSHAY STREET

Over the years riders adapted from the trailing leg style shown here to more of a leg forward shown in the second pic which shows Split Waterma...

Re: DO YOU REMEMBER THESE?

I remember some old cars with hand cranks like these. If it took a while to fire up you could end up pretty tired. If it back fired I was told you could end up with a broken wrist or arm

Re: SCHOOL DAYS--REMEMBERED.
I went to St Francis primary school on Friary Road from 1952 to 1956. Some names that I remember are John Brennan, Mickey Carrol, Paul Uden, Pauline Cochrane, Margaret Reardon, Kathleen Tarrant, Gary and Terry Harrigan twins and Kevin McDermott (as 7-8 year olds we fought a lot but ten years later r...

Re: HORNSHAY STREET
I was a Speedway fan in my teens when I lived in the UK. My team was Wimbledon but I used to travel to New Cross from time to time. They had a very colourful character that rode for them, Split Waterman. He once came second in the world championship and had some adventures in WW2. He also spent time...

Interesting, I only noticed the twins on the poster. I had completely forgot that Charlie was one of the brothers. I did not remember Lew but just looked up his terrific record, 48-8-4 Nice picture of Henry, shame about the Krays, knowing them and Henry personally Henry would cringe at seeing this pi...

Re: DO YOU REMEMBER THESE?
Radiogram. This was part of my entertainment before we had our first TV. I became an Al Jolsen fan listening to LP records on this. I remember staying up very late sitting on the floor by the speaker to listen to the broadcast of the Englishman Don Cockell fighting Rocky Marciano for the heavyweight...
