Re: The Elephant will never forget 1953.

What a marvellous video to watch! I don't remember the trams when they were about but after watching this fascinating video it certainly stirred some memories of my youth in SE London.

The Grange WWII Unexploded Bomb

This may have already been covered as it happened in 2015 when a WWII unexploded bomb was discovered during digging on a building site on The Grange. Bomb_1.jpg I have only just come across this article and when I realised exactly where the unexploded bomb was located it sent shivers up and down my ...

Re: East Lane Market

When I was a nipper my mum, brother and me always looked forward to our trips to the East Lane market on a Saturday morning as there was always something happening there! One of the most memorable sites was the guy with a suitcase or a box turned on its side to play 'Three Card Monte', a con card ga...

Re: Tooley Street Police Station

I remember the Tooley Street Police with a great passion! We lived in Abbey Buildings and one Sunday morning me and my mate found a handbag covered in glass, so we took it to Tooley Street Police Station to hand it in. The desk Sergeant and Constable must've been a bit bored as they took our fingerp...

Re: BEVINGTONS & SON, NECKINGER MILL.

Back in the 70's on our back home from school we would pass Bevingtons on Abbey Street and we would dare each other to go up to the lime pits via the side entrance and look into them! We knew that the factory produced leather but in our child's minds we thought that cows were put into the pits that ...

Re: The Boy and the Bridge (1959) - Film locations

Sorry, have no idea. Most of the scenery seems to around Tooley Street and Tower Bridge Road! Once again, thanks again for the tips on seeing this film. Will be looking out for it on the Talking Pictures film channel (freeview ch81) as they play most of the early B&W and Ealing films etc and wil...
