Location is spot on. The building on the corner had previously been a pub - the clue is the blank curved corner at first and second floor level that had carried the pub name and other signage. It was a beer house called The Railway Tavern.

Re: Southwark Park Road

I think this is looking towards Beatrice Road down on the left. The letters on the wall look like YAN, so this could be Banks & Bryan Ltd, Mantle Maker on the corner. If right the road on the right would be Camilla Road. :?: I think you're right - the taller building in the distance would be th...

Re: Abbey Street

Abbey Street, workmen perch on top of scaffolding to repair the roof of the Docklands Club, Bermondsey I guess the caption author only had the photo to go on. The photo was taken when Dockhead House was being built. The steelwork of the cage over the roof playground is being erected, and when compl...

Re: POLLOCK ROAD.

Could this be Nicholson House which I have just posted in Lion Street? And is that the white shop in Lion Street down on the left? I didn't know it was called Nicholson House; the only Nicholson House of which I was aware is one of the LCC blocks on Brandon Street. But no, the Lion Street photo was...

Re: East Lane

They certainly look like the same cart and the same location - even the same trees! I've never seen one of a horse-drawn sarsaparilla cart there before - do you think it would it have been George Barnes back then?

Re: POLLOCK ROAD.

I think this is Pollock Road?? as far as I can remember Palatinate Estate was on both sides of Pollock Road. I think the caption's wrong and right. It is Lion Street, but I don't think the Palatinate extended to Lion Street. The gap was where 55-83 Chatteris Square had stood, and the nearest block ...

This is one of the LCC photographs that has recently been given a new description by a volunteer. It appears that they haven't grasped the function of the 'shed'!
