RE- McDonald’s /Oliver’s/ Hamilton’s
Due to the Bermondseyboy forum myself and Sevmek6 who is my cousin have now got in touch with each other, after about thirty years plus. Needless to say this is really great; especially as I am now living in New Zealand, so the chances of this happening was really remote, a word of thanks to Steve. Sevmeks dad Billy and my mum Annie Oliver were brother and sister, our Nan being Katie Oliver (McDonald). . Every time you went into Nan’s house in Swan Mead you could smell the Beetroots cooking in the boiler, she and Uncle Stanley had a salad stall all week down the Tower Bridge Road. My Nan was a large lady, who had a chair with arms on either side, unfortunately she also had sugar diabetes and I can remember her injecting herself with insulin. Nans sister Mary lived in Creasy Estate, Aberdour Street married name being Lynch. If my memory serves me right some of the Lynch family immigrated to Australia maybe in the late 50s early 60s.I can remember most of my mums brothers and sisters especially Kate who married Jimmy Kelly and lived in Eltham Street. I went to secondary school with both Michael and Terry Kelly at John Harvard in Union Street, Borough, that’s after I got expelled from Riley Road School TBR but that’s another story. We also went to Patricia Kellys wedding but can’t remember the year. I must mention my aunt Mary who was my mum’s sister she also lived in Swan Mead, to me she was just a lovely lady, who I feel deserved more out of life than what she got, miss her lots. Unfortunately she died of the big C in 2001 a year after we came to NZ.

Whoops seem to be having trouble putting pictures in. I could have said its the invisible man and he lived in Bermondsey but don't think you would believe me.Come to that I could have said it was my dad he disappeared sixty odd years ago and I haven't seen him since.

Hi Everyone.
This is a picture taken in
1952, when we lived in Guinness’s Buildings, Pages Walk. Left to right is my
sister Jan being held by my mum Annie Hamilton (Oliver) my sister-in-law Joyce
Hamilton (Wilson) married to my brother Bob, who also lived in Guinness’s
Buildings, far right is my sister Sheila
and in the front myself. I wonder if
anyone can recognise the boy racer coming down the alley.
Believe it or not after
living there over twenty years I just can’t remember what the flats in the
background were called. To the right of them looking from this direction was
Harold Estate and in the front of them, over the wall to the left was Swan
Mead, at the end of the alley is an air-raid shelter. Then the main reason for
the picture, being the tin shed in the background, which has been mentioned a
number of times by different people, because as kids we use to climb up one
side and slide down the other. This is the only picture I have seen of the
shed, not the best but better than none at all and we had such good times going
up and down that roof. I can still hear my mum shouting out the window for me
to get down and my Nan Katie Oliver doing the same from Swan Mead and also George
Horton the caretaker shouting at me from the square in Guinness’s. The wall to
the left I use to run along and drop down into the park in Leroy Street, OH to
be young again I have trouble walking in a straight line now.

Hi Ray, what a lovely photo! Joyce is the image of how Julie looks now. I showed my Mum the photo of your family when you were hopping, and asked her who it was, straight away she said "that's Joyce". She recognised her from her hair. Hope you are well,

Google maps says they're now called 'Arundel Buildings'. Amazingly, Google got one of its camera cars in there, and there's bad news and good news for Kiwi. The bad news is the shed has gone (along with Guiness Trust Buildings, the wall, and the boy racer). The good news is that there's a new shed with a slopey roof, an abandoned pallet, and a nicked DIY-store trolley, and the sun's come out.
The cameras Google use have very wide angle lenses and this view is from much nearer to Arundel Buildings than Kiwi's - probably from about where the old shed was. Harold Estate is seen on the right.

Hi Kiwi,
Lovely photos. I've been having a look to see if I can find any record of Terry or Michael on Living Relative Search on Ancestry as I wanted to get hold of Kathleen Kelly but no luck. Any ideas?
Did Patricia marry Denis Hutchins?
I know one of the Kelly's has a pub but don't know where. If anyone knows please let me know
