Remembrance Sunday
To all the members far and wide I will be at Millpond Bridge War Memorial, Jamaica Rd
this coming Sunday with my pals.
After I will raise a glass to all our Bermondsey heroes who sacrificed everything for us.

Great photo's.
I couldn't help having a nose at your other Flickr stuff. There's some impressive collections there - are you a professional photographer?

Two photo's from West Lane today, Remembrance Sunday:

When you go home tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow we gave our today.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

As always, Freddie. Excellent photos.
You can just see me under the letter 'C' of the Hair Candy canopy! Fame at last!!

And on the far right of the first picture you can see Percy Grey ( seated in the Wheelchair) who used to be the vicar at St Crispins Church, Southwark Park Rd.

Hi Phil
Percy Grey ..... that's a blast from the past. He joined my husband and I in holy matrimony at St Crispins Church back in 1965. At the time, the Church was decked out with wheat and bread for harvest festival.
Rene
Hi Phil and Rene,
Percy Grey Christened my daughter Julie in 1964. It is so good to hear that he is still around. I still have my copy of the Parish Magazine with details of her Christening in it.
Linda
Hello Rene and Linda,
Percy Grey also christened my brother (1961) sister (1974, Don't ask!!) and me (1963). He also married both of my aunts and uncles. He still lives in Rotherhithe, in the 'new build' houses just behind the old Police station on Paradise St.

Here's a scan from one of Stephen Humphey's books of the War Memorial's original unveiling (plus his text).
A photograph from a similar angle to the above, taken after the ceremony on 11th November 2011, to provide a "Then and Now" comparison:
This wasn't the 'original' war memorial opened at West Lane, a very different 'temporary' stone structure was unveiled in 1920 by the Mayor of Bermondsey and dedicated by the Bishop of Southwark (source Stephen Humphrey's "Southwark, Bermondsey & Rotherhithe - a second selection" published 1997.
