Does anyone have any information about the grave yard for St Mary's Church ?
My grandparents died in 1909 & 1920 after attending the church, When I visited about 5 years ago, there is a playground with some grave stones around the wall, was the cemetry here or somewhere else ?, I wrote to the vicar but received no reply.

Hi Eddie
My memories of St Mary's go back to the late 1940's,the area you refer to  was then as it is now paved. My Mum's ashes are buried in the church garden's, my Mum and Dad were married there our family have long associations with St Mary's. I shall try to find out the answer to your question from other members of my family. I'm fairly certain my Mum told me that she always remembered it like that. She was born in 1908 and lived in Swan Building's just along from St Mary's.

Hi Eddie

Talking to my cousin John he reminded me that when we where children they had a small playground on the paved area. Just a slide and swing perhaps a roundabout.

Hi Eddie
Here is a print of St Mary's in 1747. It does show some grave stones in the area we have been discussing. Not solving the problem of what happened to them. S't Mary's at one time would have been in fairly open country, so it would most likely have had quite a large cemetery and grounds, long gone of coarse.
I hope the image is not to large, not yet worked out how to size them.

I found this video on youtube and thought it may be of some interest.
A little piece of History of St Marys Church.

Bermondseyboy,

Just tried the link to the video, but it doesn't work now.  An idea which film it was in?

Thanks Bermondseyboy, it works now!  Perhaps it was a blip when I tried it two days ago.

Incidentally, I found an old piccie of St Mary - see the Yesterday and Today forum.
