the angel

i used to clean cars outside the angel bosses an there secretarys used to pull up in nice motors an a scruffy urchin me used to say clean ya car mister? how much? u would look at the car an give a price depending on the quality of the car rolls royces 10 bob jags 10 bob morris 1000 half a crown most said yes cos they didnt wanna look tight some weeks i earned more money than me dad me mum used to work in the kitchens there so she used to chuck me some food down to keep me going the water i used was straight from the thames so u can imagine the quality of the cleaning.she also used to clean in that tall skinny lopsided building that stands all alone to the right of the pub braithewait an may i think they were called barge owners they had a pair of binoculers in there that must have been 2 foot long i spent hours looking through them the last time i went to the angel they had a no dogs policy so i took my money an my dog to the mayflower an had a great time my car cleaning business was in about 1958 does any one remember an old boy who used to live on a barge moored off the angel he used to drink in there an had a little jack russell that followed him about 3 feet behind we used to make his life a misery chucking stones at his barge
