Anyone recall Davies Dairies? I did a paper round down Long Lane with the milkman pulling a hand cart loaded with milk doing the same round. I wonder where abouts their depot was and if they ended up part of UD or Co-op!

I dont know if Davis Daires had more than one depot but when I was a child I used to help the Milkman who served all of Southwark Park Road and the surrounding roads.

The base for these milk carts was Alexis Street behind Southwark Park Road, Alexis Street at this time ran from Lindsey Street through to Blue Anchor Lane and the Dairy shop was on the corner and the yard at the side behind what was or is the Co-op in Southwark Park Road at the traffic lights with St James Road, which looking on google is now a car park for flats Know idea how they ended up?

Thinking about Davies Daires I can remember when the milkman from Davis Daires used to deliver the milk not in a bottle but direct from the churn. Plus when we talk about the milkman pulling/pushing his cart I feel the some of our members wont know what we are talking about .Will try to find a picture of these carts but again its all history now

Thanks Fosney,

The UD one at the bottom is very much like Davies Dairies float. Going further back I still recall the horse and cart milk floats. The horse new where to stop and the milky would whistle for the horse to move up.
