HELLO EX INMATES(HUDSYPR HOPE U R WELL) LIKE MOST OF YOU,I HAVE SOME FOND MEMORIES FROM BACON,MAINLY OF OF THE FRIENDS I MADE,BUT,HONESTLY,ME AND THE SCHOOL WERE NEVER ON GOOD TERMS FROM THE FIRST MORNING,WHEN,HAVING BEEN GIVEN 50 LINES(?) BY AN OLDER PUPIL(PREFECT)WHICH RESULTED IN A NUMBER OF OTHER PENALTIES(I REFUSED TO BE PUNISHED BY ANOTHER PUPIL)WHICH CULMINATED IN A WEEK LOAD OF DETENTIONS ,MOSTLY SUPERVISED BY A MR. OWEN.AFTER A WEEK OF CONSTANT ABUSE AND MANIC RAVINGS ,I'M GLAD TO SAY I NEVER ACTUALLY WAS IN A LESSON WITH THE MAN IN 4 YRS,BUT,MET QUITE OFTEN IN THE DETENTION ROOM.I THINK THE LIKES OF B.DYER(HEAD BOY) AND HIS OPPO T.CROUCH ,LEFT AT THE END OF MY 1ST YR ,BUT,WITH THE LIKES OF ING,ROBO,AND OWEN,WHAT THEY REGARDED AS DISCIPLINE, I SAW AS BULLYING.THAT SCHOOL NEEDED SOME TEACHERS WITH A BIT OF BACKBONE,TO  BUTT HEADS WITH ING.STILL IT WERE N'T ALL BAD,4 YRS OF DETENTION HELPED WITH THE WRITING AND SPELLING.ALSO,A BIG TA VERY MUCH TO THE 3RD YRS,TERRY COOPER,DANNY FINNERTY ,DAVE RAPHEAL,JOHN WHITBY,FOR LOOKING OUT FOR ME, AND SOME GREAT GAMES OF FOOTY IN THE CAGE IN HAROLD ESTATE.

I was at Bacon's roughly the same time as you, but can only remember the history teacher Mr Weir with a really strong accent. He often stank of booze, more often than not had something nasty hanging from his nose (yuk), used to listen to his walkman in class...  And not a very good teacher!

I'm sure he was a Scottish bloke that taught french... I think! We had to repeat parrot fashion as he read from a book. His tone went up and down and left and right, it was really funny for a 12 year old like me at the time. I had been playing up earlier in one particular lesson and he had me sat in front of him, yet I was still stupid enough to copy his up and down tone.. until that is, he leant across his desk and hit me full force, on the head with his glasses case! I shut up then...funny that!
I bloody sue him today and the government and the european union hahaha

Hi all, i attended Bacons from 62-67, i can also remember a lot of these teachers names, here are a few more that some of you might remember Mr Robinson, Mr Johnson, Miss Strong, Miss Mendum, Mr Reader Mr Owen, Mr Whitfield who i think was a vicar and then later became Headmaster and also Mr Fleming who was the sports teacher for one year before Mr Ricks arrived, some of the names in my year were Tony Butler Lenny Dobson Billy Tobin Steven Flatman Jamie Bond Laurie Bond John Bromley Ronnie Pike John Scales Colin Porter and Robin Oliver, i was a very keen footballer and played for the School team, i also managed to represent South London Schools on a few occasions much to Mr Ings delight, my football career petered out as soon as i discovered girls and beer, ha ha!. I have great memories of Bacon and its great to share a few of them with you all.

Regrettably I can't remember that many names from the period I was at Bacon's(1957-1962) but those I do remember(today that is) are Stanley Burt, Colin Barge, Brian Cohen, David White, Martin Owers and I remember the faces of other decent Bermondsey boys.

I have to say, I always regretted I do not get into St. Olave's, but almost of the boys that went to Bacon's at that time knew how to behave when in school uniform.

I can remember tormenting Mr Parfitt in class so that he lost his temper and swung the rubber tube from a bunsen burner at my head. It missed but I pretended it had hit me.

I couldn't stand Mr. Saunders who was to my mind bit of a thug. But I liked Mrs Saunders. Michael Owen for Maths and Norman Owen(always seemed in a dream to me) for English. Can't remember the music teacher who had once been a singer at Sadler's Wells. I remember Mr Pullen as being civilised but van't remember what he taught. I ran into Miss Gallacher much later in life when organising an event in Surrey Quays.

Does anyone remember Mr. Ing giving us a chat and then playing the piano at assembly on a Friday morning.

At Bacon's in the early/mid 60s it Miss Burge that was the Geography teacher and when she left was replaced by Miss Lilian Davenport. When Miss Irving, who was Deputy Head, left it was Miss Davenport who stepped into that role. There was a Miss Harris who taught girl's PE, I think. It was either Miss Burge or Miss Davenport who gave us the mnemonic to remember the Great Lakes of North America .. "See Miss Harris Eating Oranges" .. working away from the centre of the continenet towards the ocean it was Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario. My question is, can anyone remember which Geography teacher was it that taught us that?

Hello Leonard, I started at Bacon's just before you left. Mr Pullen if i remember right was the French teacher and he was civilised but an extremely hard caner as i unfortunately found out to my cost, also i remember a Music teacher called Mr Reader, i wonder if it were he you were thinking about. Regards.

hi popyog29
must agree with you about the bullying at the school ,i was always having to fight with some idiot ,and your views on Ing ,right on the nail ,but this might cheer you up,Ing was forever picking on me ,and his fav was my tie or lack of one and come one winters morning ,i arrived at the scool gate in a rollneck jumper (proudly knitted by Mother),and the man stood there at the gate reached out pull down the neck on my jumper ,"no tie Mills ,go home your suspended",next morning back to school ,me in jumper, and the great man at the gate ,pulls on me jumper ,"right lad my office six of the best".
Thats when this hand pulled him out ot to the pavement and my Dad whacked him ,the big feller was spark out on the pavement ,brill he never ever spoke to me again .Result

I went to boucher school before going to bacon - the headmistress smoked a pipe, i can't think of her name, our teacher - I was about 10 was mr secret - it would have been about 1968,.  I went on to bacon school - ms crombie was my teacher - the girls from either boucher or bacon were susan martin - she went to australia, susan mcquillan, david batt, roy brooker, stephen jarman, kim futrell, kim baker.  Mr parfitt was the english teacher, but he also taught r.e. pottery was taught in the house in the school grounds.  I remember mr ing used to come out of the school to make sure we were all wearing our hats -they were horrible, I was suppose to go to the deaf and dumb school for dinners but I went to joyces for mash and liqure.
