I remember some of these names.  Started at Pages Walk in 1962, there were 364 on the school roll that year.  Gordon cousin to Barry Dyer the undertaker.  Alan Symonds got married to Denise Knowles's sister.  Have fond memories of my time there.  Mr Ing, Miss Irvine, Miss Milsom, Mr Pullen and Mr Parfitt to name a few.  How times have changed we were taught respect and dicipline.

Hi I remember those names as well, I (Ken Smith) played in the school band. Barry had sucess with his TV documentry and books, which started me writing my own novel.
Yes Mr Ing was a big guy, you cleared out of his way when he was on the warpath. I started in Bacon Grange Road, but had to go back to Boucher, when they closed Grange Road to move to Pages Walk.
My older Brother Ron Smith, and later Charlie Smith also went to Bacons.

Hi I to went to Boucher before going to Bacon, I started Bacon in 1979 aged 11. When I was at Bacon the school spread over to building, one was Pages Walk and the over was down by Bermondsey South station near the waste ground where they filmed Danger U.S.B. I remember the school had to close early one day for filming.
Mr Parfitt tought me English when I was twelve at Bacon so that would have been around 1980.
As you might be able to tell I didn't learn much by the way I write and spell. He tought me to spell the way you say it and thats not good when you come from Bermondsey and the way we speek.
I remember he used to talk quiet posh. I sorry I don't remember any more names sorry.
I'm looking for an old friend of mine who was in the year above me with no luck yet.

Hi Baconboys,
Just come across you on this site I went to Bacon 1956-60 in the last year I was a prefect the class I had to look after was Mr Parfitt's which was on the ground floor. Yes He was a good teacher, when i was in the second year just after Mr Parfitt arrived at the school although he was not our form teacher he used to take us for a lesson can't remember which one, we played him up something rotton, he could not get control we were all hollering and shouting, all of a sudden the door flew open and Mr Ing was standing in the doorway, you then could have heard a pin drop. He said to one boy "Go down and fetch my cane from my study" He then canned us all, we never played Mr Parfitt up again. Also we never went home and told mum & dad LOL. Dont know if you knew my brother Phil Stupple.

Hi Rick,
I must have been there the same time as you. I am 62 now how old are you?
Do you rememeber Parfitt jumping on the table and doing a dance just to draw attention with a loud class? We used to call him Ben Rabbi.
Mr & Mrs Saunders were a pair strong with the cane!
Mr Paulem used to enjoy a fag with his cupa.
My name is Roger Sligo I used to hang about with Terry Huckett - his brother Jimmy was a prefect too.

Hi Roger I am 65, dont remember Parfitt doing a dance on the table, you were all youngsters to me I was a sophisticated 15 year old LOL. Jimmy Hucket was in the same class as me. Yes remember the saunders I hated him, when she walked around in a tea shirt for PE all heads turned. Remember Mr Pullen as well he was the one who could use the cane the hardest.
Also the two Owens Mo & No. About ten years after leaving Bacons I was living in Sydenham Married with two young children, I saw Norman Owen on the station on my way to work, I went up to him with every intention of saying Hello Norman, but all that came out was Hello Sir. What a great site this is nice to share memories. Rick

Hi Rick,

You must have been in S3 or S4 when I was in J2. I still see Jimmy Huckett from time to time as I was always a good mate of his brother Terry Huckett. When Jimmy was sent down as prefect to look after us his brother and me would play around as he could not report us! My name by the way is Roger Sligo. Another older boy I remember although he was maybe a year behind you and a couple in front of me was the footballer Alan Dennis -  who captained England in the schoolboys International at Wembley (I went there with the school trip to watch), against Scotland He was offered a job for Tottenham Hotspurs 2nd team but chose Millwall's first team instead- a big mistake I think as he was not heard of again! He did come back to school however a year later when Ingy praded him around the school as a roll model for us all.

Another couple of names of older boys was Neddy Austin and Michael Chapman (Sweets); he always demanded sweets from us younger kids.

Mrs Saunders used to sit on the end of the table showing a lovely pair of knees, we liked her but not her husband.

Let me know if you recall any of these or some others you knew,
Roger

Hi Roger,

It was fifty years ago this year that I left Bacon's but the names you are mentioning make it feel like yesterday. I was in S4 when you in J2 just about remember your name but not the face you lot were little boys compared with us grown ups LOL.
Allen Dennis was in the same class as me, and in fact I went mates with him for a couple of years after school and also Johny(Neddie) Austin. Also Tony Jordan & John Chuch who have kept in touch and whom I see only a couple of months ago. With Mrs Saunders it was not her knees we noticed lol. Do you remember a boy who was in your class with a scar on his face, I alwayd found him a bit of an handful when I had to look after your class,

Miss Gallaghar was the one in our class with the busty substances. She was 3 foot nothing but had massive boobs, long before all these implants. Do you recall her?

Also Neddy Austin went on the school trip top Switzerland as I did.
 Did you go too?
Cheers,
Roger

I went to Bacon's School from 1968 to 1973. During that time the school expanded to include the Delapford Road building by South Bermondsey Station.
Mr Ing was the Headmaster,
Mrs Davenport was Deputy Head,
Mr Razey taught maths and was our year group head for a couple of years. He was certainly the teacher I respected the most.

The Pages Walk building has now been converted into apartments!

sad to see that Mr Razey is no longer with us,i had few dealings with him none of them to my benefit.
the young girl with cap on at church in VIDEO"we was all one " was a classmate of mine her name is KIM PEARCEY she was one of the nicest people at the school during  my time there(also the last
face i saw upon my hasty exit)    recognized some old faces in photo on school roof (Pat sullivan
Ron Macrossan-stephen newton-linda whitnall-Kim pearcey)
 TEACHERS-Hoskins-woodwork-not a bad bloke
Ricks-P-E-cocky to first years  but not bad after Crombie-maths-my favourite  but i certainly was not hers-Stamford-geo-not keen Robbo-science-once pinned my ears back in a ten minute rant that covered my top half in spittle  -bully MISS PANTER-english-torture every lesson
now living in North Kent it's hard to stay in touch with old mates , so it wasreally sad to hear that Derek Allan had passed away some years back. derek(HAGGIS) was a great mate, his
sister Brenda and cousin Isobel also attended Bacon. I doubt his mum+dad are still living at ST.
Olaves Gdns, but I wish all his family well.

Hi Ex Classmates.  I went to Bacon's from 68 to 73.  classmates being Leslie Lockwood Chris Batt (all three of us from Tower Bridge Primary) Kay Burke,Kim Pearcey, Mags Bland, Janice Carter, Ken Davis, Steve and Gill Newton. Hilary Tickner and Peter Clark I have remained close friends all these years later.  Miss Milsom, Bernie Lehman, Miss Panther and in the first year Geog teacher Miss Stafford.  I loved school and remained close to all classmates for years after but sadly lost touch with many in later years.  Friends Reunited put me in touch with many of the old faces. I now live in Spain so sadly don't get to Bermondsey much any more.  But they were good years to live there while at

Good old days....

I went to bacons from 75-79. I left at the end of the 4th year. Me dad was fed up living in London and decided to move us down to a big new shiny council estate in Horsham, W. sussex!!! where the bloody hell was that? I had no idea, was very insular to bermondsey and very happy with my lot. I didnt know we were moving till 2 weeks before the start of the 5th year in the summer holidays, so ended up losing contact with lots of school mates. No mobiles / texting / emails then!
Mates were; Stephen Putt, Rob Rawcliffe, Stephen Jerome, Paul Hannam, Kim Tutt, Julie Barnett. Loads more..
Mr Ing ran the place with a rod of iron. Mr Razey was not to be messed with, but tormented lots of others. Mr Ricks would only pick members of the football team for his side when playing football in southwark park..haha. can anyone remember the scottish teacher (real strong accent) who taught French ! hilarious..
