53 Hickmams Folly 1965
In the reign of Queen Anne, Gardens, Theatres and other places of pleasure were called by the French
name of "Follie". A street leading from Dockhead to the Thames received this name as being the way down
to the Gardens on the river bank. It was first known as the "Bermondsey Folly" and then, from later Proprietors
became Hickman's Folly.
